Airline Travel

Thanks to its lithium battery, Jazzy Carbon is designed for airline travel. The FAA allows you to bring lithium batteries up to 300Wh or less on an airplane. The batteries can be checked or brought as a carry-on.

If the battery stays on the folding power wheelchair, it must be protected against other baggage. If not, the battery must be removed, battery terminals covered, and the battery must be taken on as carry-on luggage.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has details on its website for those with electric wheelchairs and other assistive devices who plan on flying. This will give you a better understanding of how to prepare for a flight with your Jazzy Carbon, and we encourage you to consult your airline prior to your flight to ensure your unit and its lithium-ion batteries are permitted.

Bus and Train Travel

For those traveling by bus, van, or train, an electric wheelchair can be accommodated on board if it does not exceed 30 inches wide by 48 inches high. The Jazzy Carbon measures 24 inches wide by 19 inches high, which means it easily meets the mark.

Additionally, federal guidelines indicate that the total weight of the electric wheelchair and the user cannot exceed 600 pounds, as this is the minimum design load required for a lift. Because the Jazzy Carbon weighs only 39 lbs. and its maximum weight capacity is 300 lbs., it’s guaranteed to meet the requirements to safely board a bus or train.

However, because of its compact nature, the Jazzy Carbon is easily stowed in bus luggage compartments. If properly secured, it should remain protected from damage during transport. Be sure to consult the bus company prior to your trip to arrange the proper accommodation.

Amtrak has detailed accessible travel services on its website, outlining the assistance it will provide to passengers who use a wheeled mobility device. You’ll have the option of remaining seated in your Jazzy Carbon for the duration of the ride or transferring to an accessible seat while stowing your powerchair nearby.

Cruise Travel

Jazzy Carbon is perfect to bring aboard a cruise, as its lightweight and compact nature can help you get around the ship efficiently, with access to many of the of the onboard activities.

However, it’s important to note that cruise lines such as Carnival have unique accommodations for guests with limited mobility, including a variety of accessible staterooms. We encourage you, as with airlines, buses, and trains, to research your options ahead of time.

Car Travel

The Jazzy Carbon folds nearly flat for optimal storage. It fits into most trunks of sedans and SUVs, which means if you’re taking a short trip by car, it’s easy to bring along.

Similarly, if you require the use of a taxi, Uber, or Lyft, you shouldn’t have a problem folding up your electric wheelchair and storing it in the trunk. But if you call for an Uber or Lyft, just be sure to ask ahead of time if there will be enough trunk space to accommodate your Jazzy Carbon.
