The Opticell Gelling Fiber Wound Dressing represents a breakthrough in advanced wound care, featuring proprietary Chytoform chitosan-based gelling fiber technology that revolutionizes how healthcare professionals manage moderate to heavily exuding wounds. This sterile, medical-grade dressing utilizes highly absorbent fibers that undergo a remarkable transformation upon contact with wound exudate, converting into a clear, soft, conformable gel that intimately adapts to the wound bed's unique contours and depth.
Unlike traditional wound dressings, this innovative gelling fiber technology creates an optimal moist wound healing environment while simultaneously preventing periwound maceration. The dressing's unique vertical wicking action draws fluid upward through the fiber matrix without lateral spreading, effectively locking exudate away from healthy surrounding tissue. This intelligent fluid management system not only protects the periwound skin but also facilitates autolytic debridement by trapping necrotic tissue, slough, and cellular debris within the gel matrix for clean, easy removal during dressing changes.
This versatile wound dressing is clinically indicated for managing partial-thickness and full-thickness wounds across all drainage levels, from minimal to heavy exudate. Ideal applications include pressure injuries (stages 2-4), diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, arterial ulcers, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, donor sites, and first- and second-degree burns. The hemostatic properties of chitosan also make this dressing effective for controlling minor bleeding in superficial wounds.
For optimal wound healing outcomes, the dressing may remain in place for up to 7 days, with change frequency determined by wound condition, exudate volume, and clinical assessment. When used for burn management, the dressing may remain in place for up to 14 days. Always assess the wound and periwound skin at each dressing change to monitor healing progress.
Contraindications: Do not use on third-degree burns or on patients with known hypersensitivity to chitosan or shellfish-derived products, as chitosan is derived from crustacean shells.
Single-Use Device: This product is intended for single use only. Do not resterilize or reuse. Proper disposal according to facility protocols and local regulations is required.
Clinicians trust Opticell Gelling Fiber Dressings for their proven ability to simplify wound management protocols while delivering superior patient outcomes. The combination of high absorbency, conformability, extended wear time, and gentle removal makes this dressing an essential component of evidence-based wound care programs in hospitals, long-term care facilities, wound clinics, and home health settings.
